Disseminated vaccine-induced varicella infection in a kidney transplant recipient
Am J Transplant. 2023 Jun 5:S1600-6135(23)00522-1. doi: 10.1016/j.ajt.2023.05.034. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTA 33-year-old kidney transplant (KT) recipient presented with a disseminated pruritic, painful, vesicular rash and hepatitis three weeks after receiving a varicella vaccine (VAR). A skin lesion biopsy sent to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for genotyping confirmed vaccine-strain varicella-zoster virus (VZV) (Oka strain; vOka). The patient was successfully treated with intravenous acyclovir during a prolonged hospital stay. This case supports the contraindication of VAR in adult KT recipient...

Clinical effectiveness of zoster vaccine live in kidney transplant recipients immunized prior to transplantation: a retrospective single-center cohort study
CONCLUSIONS: Our study, the first on the clinical effectiveness of zoster vaccines for KT recipients, suggests that ZVL before transplantation effectively prevents HZ.PMID:36868356 | DOI:10.1016/j.cmi.2023.02.014

Fight Aging! Newsletter, February 13th 2023
This study investigated whether taller Polish adults live longer than their shorter counterparts. Data on declared height were available from 848,860 individuals who died in the years 2004-2008 in Poland. To allow for the cohort effect, the Z-values were generated. Separately for both sexes, Pearson's r coefficients of correlation were calculated. Subsequently, one way ANOVA was performed. The correlation between adult height and longevity was negative and statistically significant in both men and women. After eliminating the effects of secular trends in height, the correlation was very weak (r = -0.0044 in men and ...

Seroprevalence of VZV IgG antibody in kidney transplant recipients: A systematic and meta-analysis review
CONCLUSION: In this study, our results demonstrated that VZV is a prevalent infectious agent in kidney transplant recipients. A prophylactic vaccine may provide an effective strategy for preventing VZV in renal transplant recipients and also provide prophylaxis against the occurrence of post-herpetic neuralgia in immunocompetent patients.PMID:36341911 | DOI:10.1016/j.trim.2022.101730

Boosting the VZV-Specific Memory B and T Cell Response to Prevent Herpes Zoster After Kidney Transplantation
CONCLUSION: VZV booster vaccination increases VZV-specific IgG titers and percentage VZV-specific memory T-cells for at least 1 year both in ESRD patients and healthy controls. VZV-specific memory B cells significantly increased in patients up to 3 months after vaccination. Prophylactic VZV booster vaccination prior to transplantation could reduce HZ incidence and severity after transplantation.PMID:35935972 | PMC:PMC9352887 | DOI:10.3389/fimmu.2022.927734
